Sodium glycerophosphate is a mixture of variable proportions of hydrated disodium (2RS)-2,3-dihydroxy propyl phosphate and hydrated disodium 2-hydroxy-1-(hydroxymethyl)ethyl phosphate. The mixture may contain various amounts of other glycerophosphate esters.

Sodium glycerophosphate is a sodium salt of glycerophosphates. Sodium glycerophosphate is used in the sports nutrition supplements as electrolytes and a phosphate source for calcium and phosphate metabolism during fitness and bodybuilding.

In Europe, sodium glycerophosphate is archived in the European pharmacopeia as Sodium glycerophosphate hydrated.

In Canada, according to Health Canada, it is a mineral of the Phosphorus ingredient in the natural health product category. (NHP)

Sodium glycerophosphate will be classified as an NHP, because it is used as a source of Phosphorus, and therefore is considered an NHP under Schedule 1, item 7, (Priority 5; Mineral) of the Natural Health Products Regulations.

Function:

Sodium glycerophosphate is a medication used to treat hypophosphatemia. Sodium glycerophosphate is one of several glycerophosphate salts. It is used clinically to treat or prevent low phosphate levels Label. Glycerophosphate is hydrolyzed to inorganic phosphate and glycerol in the body
